Slagbaai is a natural bay and degeneration of "Slachtbaai", an old Dutch word, which means, "Slaughters-bay". From this place, Dutch people transported the slaughtered and salted goats to CuraƧao. Later they also began to transport salt from Slagbaai. There is still an office, several stores, a slaughterhouse and a house of a superintendent at Slagbaai. Dutch people made all buildings after 1868.
There is a small beach at Slagbaai and is a great place for snorkeling and diving. You need to leave Slagbaai at 4 p.m. as the park closes at 5 p.m.
Since recently there is a restaurant located in one of the buildings of Slagbaai where you can have a lunch. They sell various drinks, sandwiches and burgers. |
